A Brief History of Human Powered Transportation

The long slender hull concept, the sliding seat, and advancer oar design took the conventionally propelled water craft about as far as it could go. As in many fields of competition, innovations such as the fixed seat and moving oarlocks were banned from use despite the fact that they improved boat performance. A hint of what was to come is shown on the left of the picture. History repeats itself!
