Women quickly became bicycle users. The photograph shows an 1895 Cleveland women's bike sporting a skirt guard over the rear wheel and a frame without a crossbar for easy mounting. Significant social discussion centered on the propriety of using this new mode of transportation! |

The bike shown uses tangential spokes for its wheels, and appears to have a 'coaster brake' for the rear wheel. Structural stability for the frame and head tube is achieved by doubling up the tube between the bottom bracket and the head tube. |
