At Trias, on the same canal, an aqueduct was selected as the best method of spanning the valley of a small river. The top diagram shows the wooden piling foundations needed to stabilize this heavy structure in the soft ground of the valley. These must support the weight of the masonry structure together with the substantial load due to the water in the aqueduct. |
