· The (a/3)[110] dislocation
is the Cottrell-Lomer dislocation ·
The
line
vector of this dislocation is in the < 112 > direction,
and the Burgers
vector is in the [110] direction, to give a (001) glide plane.
This is not
a slip plane of the fcc
crystal and the dislocation cannot glide. · Both {111} slip
planes are blocked
by this Cottrell-Lomer dislocation, increasing the work
hardening rate.
