The
change from the fcc to the bcc structure is shown schematically for pure
iron (which can also undergo a martensitic transformation).
· The bct cell formed by a relabelling of the crystal structure is shown in (b). If the lattice is then allowed to relax, it can go to the undistorted bcc unit cell. · In a material containing carbon, the bct unit cell may be retained at high carbon concentrations due to the distortion of the cell produced by the interstitial carbon atoms. |
