· Two types of dislocation interaction with the age-hardening precipitates are illustrated.
· (a) Cutting through the precipitate and generating new surface area.
· (b) Bowing around an array of precipitates and regenerating the dislocation after passing the barrier.
· Both processes increase the yield stress and work hardening of the alloy.
