December 19, 2001: Snapshot

Silent Night

By Frank Wojciechowski

At the Episcopal service in the University Chapel on the night of Sunday, November 18, freshman Anne Throdahl, serving as an acolyte, carried the torch in the recessional. The Episcopal Church marked its 125th anniversary on campus last year, making it the oldest Anglican university chaplaincy in the world; the St. Paul’s Society, its precursor, was founded on December 8, 1875, by the Rev. Dr. Alfred Baker 1861.

Throdahl, who grew up in St. Louis although her parents now live in Allendale, New Jersey, has been active in the Episcopal Church all her life. She began serving as an acolyte in eighth grade and says she finds it “a wonderful and unpretentious way to participate in the service.” On a more personal note, she adds, “My father, Mark Throdahl ’73, is an alumnus, so it means a lot to me to have this kind of connection with him through this university, and there is something about the University Chapel, so rich in beauty and history, that seems to capture the very spirit of Princeton.”
