Throwing down the gauntlet

Taking a break from writing papers and studying for exams, members of the women’s fencing team practiced their form in Dillon Gym in mid-January. In this precision drill, Crystal Jiang ’04 drops gloves for junior foils Allison Toy, left, and Mindy Rostal to try to hit. Toy and Rostal won pivotal bouts against Harvard and Yale last year to help the team win its third Ivy League championship in a row. Rostal went on to earn a bronze medal at the national championships. Toy, who has been fencing for 10 years, picked up the sport after watching her sister Adrienne Saur ’96 compete.
