ROTC students scale
a wall during an Army obstacle race on campus Sept. 4, 1942. Established
at the University in 1919 with an Army field artillery unit, the ROTC
program had commissioned 2,000 Princetonians by the time of Pearl Harbor.
Naval and Air Force units were added later and ROTC reached its all-time
high enrollment of 1,107 undergraduates in 1951. In May 2004, about 50
men and women were enrolled in Army ROTC, the only military program still
operating at Princeton. Can any readers identify the men pictured?
