Daniel P. Kreer ’41 (right) returns a shot against his Cornell
opponent during the 1939 intercollegiate table-tennis tournament. According
to Kreer, Princeton won the first national table-tennis tourney in 1938
when he and Abbott L. Nelson ’41 were partners. The following year,
Penn won the championship at the Palestra in Philadelphia, with Princeton
finishing third. Kreer also used his keen hand-eye coordination as captain
of Princeton’s varsity tennis team in his senior year.
