 Sailors from the
Navy V-12 unit, one of many groups given military training on campus during
World War II, perform their morning muster in front of Little Hall. The
photograph was provided by retired Navy Capt. Frederick Carment Jr., who
enlisted as a Naval aviation cadet in 1943, then was reassigned to the
V-12 program as a Princeton freshman. Reassigned back to V-5 flight training
after his freshman year, Carment says his inability to return to Princeton
is “one of my regrets in life.”
