April 20, 2005: From the Archives It doesn’t quite look like Paris, but “Parisian Splendor”
was the theme for this 1948 dance, sponsored by the Daily Princetonian
and the Tiger magazine, in the transformed Dillon Gym. Undergrads and
their imported dates practiced the lost art of dancing cheek to cheek
as the Meyer Davis Orchestra played at this major campus social occasion.
Tickets, at $8.50 for stags or couples, were limited to 900. Organizers
claimed the dance would “surpass anything attempted at Princeton
for the past 10 years.”
