September 14, 2005: From the Archives The Class of 1948
ended its time on campus in much the same way as the Class of 2005: First
there was the Saturday P-rade, then Baccalaureate Sunday, Class Day on
Monday, and finally Commencement Tuesday, June 15. One tradition that
didn’t continue through the years, however, was the “Quarterback
Quartet,” which in 1948 entertained President Harold Dodds *14 and
the 580 members of Princeton’s senior class, the largest outgoing
class up to that point in University history. Can any readers identify
these musical jocks or remember wearing saddle shoes like the footballer
pictured second from left?
