March 22, 2006: From the Archives
Houseparties weekend may have been the occasion in the spring of 1969
to move household items — in this case, a couple of contemporary
sectionals — outdoors for relaxation. A Princeton tradition whose
name originated in 1916 (before then, eating clubs had spring tea parties),
Houseparties were drawing nearly 1,000 women to campus by the 1930s. The
current format of Houseparties developed after women were admitted to
the University. Can any PAW readers name the mellow fellow pictured here?
