It's A Big World — Jeremy Toback '88 and Renee Stahl (One Melody Records). The duo set out to make kids' music that "adults could enjoy, not just tolerate." According to the Web site Rhapsody.com, Toback and Stahl's "languid songs strike at the heart of parenthood: the quiet beauty of it, the magic and intimacy, the hopes, fears and lessons. The duo wrote the material while Renee was pregnant (and on bed rest) and recorded them in her daughter's bedroom, and the songs feel just that intimate: simply guitar, two voices, and a host of sentiments every parent can relate to, but few hear voiced with such honesty and simplicity." Toback has released two CDs on RCA, 1997's Perfect Flux Thing and 1999's Another True Fiction. Stahl's two previous CDs are Melancholy Pop and Hopeful Romantic. Deep Minor — Alex Kontorovich ’02 (Chamsa Records). Comprised of original compositions by Kontorovich, his debut album features Aaron Alexander on drums; Brandon Seabrook on guitar, banjo, and tapes; and Reuben Radding on bass. Time Out New York called the disc “an exuberant if not groundbreaking slice of downtown klez-jazz. The plinking banjo of Brandon Seabrook serves as an excellent foil for the leader’s supple, swinging lines.” A clarinetist and saxophonist, Kontorovich is known in the New York and international klezmer, classical, and jazz scenes. He also is a math professor at Brown University. GRADUATE ALUMNI FACULTY/STAFF Paul Muldoon Reads His Own Poems — Paul Muldoon (Scamafone). In this audio recording of 30 poems, Muldoon, poetry editor of The New Yorker and chairman of the Lewis Center for the Arts at Princeton, reads "Dancers at the Moy," "The Sonogram," "Moy Sand and Gravel," and "Medley for Morin Khur," among other works. Muldoon's three-car garage band, Rackett, released its second CD, Resistance (Scamafone). Among his bandmates is Nigel Smith, a professor of English at Princeton. Muldoon writes lyrics and plays guitar; Smith plays bass, sings, and write songs. To listen to Muldoon's recordings go to www.paulmuldoon.net. Musique Héroïque — Eric Plutz (Pro Organo). All six works on this disc were recorded on the University Chapel Organ in August 2006 by University Organist Eric Plutz. Each piece contains either “héroïque” or “eroica” in its title. Included on the disc are “March Héroïque” by Sir Alfred Herbert Brewer and “Sonata Eroica” by Joseph Jongen. The CD is available at the University Store, and Web sites including Amazon.com, www.zarex.com and www.ohscatalog.com. DVDs Squeeze — Tracy Effinger ’91.
