A letter from a reader about A poetic experience on the ice
The brief feature noting 100 years of Lake Carnegie tickled a memory of a precious Princeton experience. One winter day in an undergraduate English lit course, our instructor read aloud a Wordsworth poem which described “cutting across the reflex of a star” when the poet ice-skated on a moonless night. That very evening a few of us with ice skates duplicated the experience on Lake Carnegie, cutting the reflexes of many stars reflected from the unblemished surface of the hard frozen lake.
