John Martin accolade
I would like to add yet
another tribute to that master professor, John Martin. As a biology
major, I took as many art history classes as biology classes, and
Professor Martin's Baroque art class was the most memorable of all
my Princeton years. To Professor Martin's credit, I can still distinguish
a Ter Borch from a de Hooch, and can converse in artists ranging
from Caravaggio to Hals to Watteau. Even today, I vividly remember
his description of the dress of a princess in a Vel ázquez
painting as a "pure miracle." Professor Martin will certainly
be sorely missed by his students, the Princeton community, and the
art world.
