For a four-lane urban street an 80' right of way is typical. The two lower diagrams show street improvement to include bike lanes. In the top example the existing pavement is re-striped to include two bike lanes and a common center left- turn lane for both travel directions. The lower diagram has a widened pavement that permits two lanes of motor vehicle travel in each direction together with bike lanes in each direction. No on-street parking is provided on this urban travel corridor.
