In a mixed-user road situation with marked bike lanes, road junctions, on and off ramps, present a potential conflict between the motor vehicles and the bikes (HPVs). The diagrams opposite show some potential solutions for minimizing these conflicts.

For the exit ramp shown in the top diagram, the bike has the right-of-way across the exit and signs notify the motor vehicles of this situation. Warning markings are placed on the pavement to alert cyclists of their bike lane status.

The lower diagram illustrates an entrance ramp. In this case bikes on the highway yield to motorists entering the road from the ramp. They cross the ramp at 900 to the ramp traffic flow, joining the bike path on that ramp and continuing into the main highway. Signs warn motorists of the bike crossing and alert cyclists of their need to yield right-of-way.
