Failure Mechanisms

· In the Dislocation Creep region, the diffusion controlled climb process annihilates the outer dislocation loops of active Frank-Reed sources, permitting the sources to release more loops which then expand and permit plastic deformation to continue.

· Climb processes that are diffusion controlled determine the motion of the dislocations, and hence the creep rate, in this temperature and stress range.
