A letter from a reader about Enlisting in the Army Regarding James Tyson 76’s letter of Nov. 2, it is unfortunate that he is so dismayed by Graham Phillips ’05’s enlistment in the Army (Perspective, Sept. 14). Having some experience of service in tank units, I can assure Mr. Tyson that Mr. Phillips will not be setting national policy as a tank driver or loader. If Mr. Tyson has a quarrel with how the Army is employed, he ought to take it up with his elected representative as, in our Republic, the Army does nothing except at the behest of the people’s government. Mr. Tyson should also address his elected representative concerning his worries about the charter of the United Nations. Mr. Phillips has taken an oath to “support and defend the constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” He has not taken an oath to enforce the charter of the United Nations.
